Filtronics announces new EM-Mini low flow system for the removal of arsenic, iron, manganese and other metals.

Filtronics EM-mini SystemFiltronics EM-mini packaged water treatment systems are factory assembled, fully self-contained and specifically designed for applications 100 gpm or less. Coming in standard configurations, the EM-mini features a smaller footprint at the lowest capital cost in the industry making them perfect for budget minded small communities, schools, commercial or industrial facilites needinga simple, economical solution. To optimize performance, the EM-mini utilizes our NSF certified Electromedia® which allows for higher filtration rates, minimal chemical dosage, and never needs replacement.

Filtronics Backwash Reclaim

Water used for purge and backwash is put to the reclaim tank to allow for the treatment residuals from backwash to sink to the bottom of the tank, allowing the supernatant to be recycled. Any time the water level is above the reclaim start level set point the reclaim timer begins its cycle. The reclaim timer cycle allows the residuals to settle.

At the end of the timing cycle the reclaim pump will start when the filter is in filtration and the well pump is running. The reclaim pump is started by the Filter Control Panel. Multiple pumps or variable speed pumps are used for multiple well and filter applications.

The residuals are stored in the bottom of the reclaim tank. Periodically, the reclaim tank is drained to the sanitary sewer, drying bed, or hauled off.

More than 99% of the water used for backwash and purge is recycled using the reclaim system.

What in the world is brix?

Brix is a measurement of the total dissolved solids in the juice squeezed out of a plant’s leaves or fruit. Distilled water has zero brix. The most brix you will see is 35. Sometimes brix will be used in the measure of sugar, in this case brix actually reflects the total solids – the sum of the sugars, minerals, hormones, oils, proteins, amino acids, flavors, and other constituents. For instance, 100 pounds of 24 brix grape juice would yield 24 pounds of solids. Brix is measured with a refracto-meter, which in the fruit industry is called a brixmeter.

Examples of NTU
Waste Water 70-2000 NTU
Final outlet sewage treatment plant 4-20 NTU
Well Water 0.05 – 10 NTU
Potable water 0.05 – 1.5 NTU
Milk > 4000 NTU
Orange juice 300 – 900 NTU
Thats high quality H2O!

Backwash Description

With our filtration systems, the backwash is automatically initiated through a timer or in cases of a differential pressure limit being reached.

The purpose of the backwash step is to expand the filter bed to permit the cleaning of the collected contaminants from the media by introducing water at the bottom and discharging it at the top.  Backwash water must be supplied from a source that is filtered or clean and disinfected.  The rate of flow control valve provides the rate and constant flow necessary to achieve proper backwash.  It is imperative to have the proper rate.  Normal backwash time is four minutes.

The filter will always backwash prior to shutdown to clean the collected contaminants from the media.
